For this project, INCITIAS was tasked with sourcing an appropriate LPG VLGC for conversion to an LPG FSO. Additionally, we supported the integration of the FSO with onshore gas processing and refrigeration technology. As the project developed into a purpose-built LPG FSO, we streamlined operation procedures and minimised costs through the implementation of novel contracting strategies.

Our work:

  • Consulting expertise for the sourcing of an LPG VLGC for conversion to an LPG FSO

  • Developing a purpose-built LPG FSO with gas processing and refrigeration capacity
  • Preparing new build design specifications with DSME and Wison
  • Cost minimisation for the LPG FSO
 

This project evolved from a simple jetty moored LPG VLGC to a purpose-built LPG FSO with gas processing and refrigeration capacity. From here, we engaged with shipyards and supported the client by preparing new build design specifications. In partnership with two shipyards, INCITIAS then developed a novel contracting strategy which allowed the shipyards to streamline their execution. 


INCITIAS was able to minimise the cost of the LPG FSO and take on process guarantees for the topside project. This is uncommon for shipyards, who traditionally outsource the design of topside and integration to major engineering contractors.


INCITIAS has successfully closed the gap between conventional shipyard knowledge and the ability to design topside inhouse. As a result, we were instrumental in helping to develop the open book costing methodology – suitable for both the client and the shipyard as prime contractor.
