Fast-Tracked Hose Reel Package Delivery for Offshore Wind Farm Development
INCITIAS’ engineering breakthrough simplifies logistics and enhances efficiency in renewable energy construction.
In our recent project in Cherbourg, France, INCITIAS successfully delivered and commissioned a Hose Reel Package. The system, designed to facilitate the installation of wind turbine pylons, features an advanced hose reel control system and servo motors. Its fast-paced delivery marks a significant achievement in engineering logistics and project execution within the renewable energy sector.
INCITIAS Lead Project Engineer, Alice Martelletti, was on-site in Cherbourg to oversee the assembly and commissioning of the reels. The package comprised of four reels, essential components to provide power and water to operate the vibro tool, which prepares the seabed for pylon installation. INCITIAS project delivery also included an additional umbilical reel for the pumping spread package.
Designed for air freight to fast track the build and meet a tight schedule, the reels were manufactured in Dubai and transported to France in smaller sections. This strategic decision facilitated faster shipping and adhered to stringent weight restrictions for air freight. Upon arrival, the assembly took place at the client’s base before moving to the quayside for lifting and installation.
INCITIAS also deployed specialist Marcus Cook, a control system automation engineer for commissioning the control systems, ensuring their optimal performance during the operational phase.
A notable feature of the project was the ability to lift all four reels in a single operation, with the fifth umbilical reel lifted separately. This efficient handling significantly reduced time on-site and decreased costs associated with multiple lifts. INCITIAS also designed and built a lifting beam suitable for the single lift of the Vibro reels package and umbilical package.

INCITIAS provided thorough commissioning services, including proof load and functional testing of the system to ensure safety and operational integrity before final testing in working conditions. Additionally, the system’s design allows for remote access, ensuring INCITIAS engineers can monitor and control the system from any location, enhancing the flexibility and responsiveness of support provided.
This project showcased INCITIAS’ expertise in troubleshooting and interfacing with other systems and vendors. Ensuring a seamless integration of the hose reel package with the overall project infrastructure.
After rigorous field testing, the hose reel and umbilical reel package is now fully operational and ready for action. This project demonstrates INCITIAS’ ability to manage complex logistical challenges and our dedication to advancing renewable energy technologies through engineering solutions.
